A few weeks ago my husband and I celebrated our 100th birthday (both of us turned 50 this year). In lieu of gifts, we asked our guests to donate new or gently used books. We were overwhelmed with the wonderful response from our friends and family. We donated hundreds of books to the Family Point Resources library located in the Outreach Center of West Houston.

When we delivered the books, Jorge Quinones gave me a tour of the property and told me more about all the programs that are housed in their building. I’ve lived in West Houston for quite some time and was unaware of the abundant resources at their facility. The Outreach center houses many non-profit organizations for a below market cost to those organizations allowing them to spend their money on helping more people in the community.

The goals for the Outreach Center are to provide Enrichment, Recovery, and Development for families and individuals in our community to:

  • Restore purpose and productivity to their lives.
  • Learn new skills.
  • Develop healthy relationships.
  • Experience a positive mental, physical, spiritual and emotional growth.

Program Highlights

  • OC serves 120 kids daily
  • 8,000 books in the library
  • 350 volunteers

“We believe that it would be a travesty for this type of community center and programs that it houses…but that the capacity for and breadth of support for the community through this facility will grow. This is a commitment to continue a legacy of healing and learning. ”

Bill Sartain, Founding Member
